04 - A new level of precision

Complex shapes with the four-axis CNC machine

The fourth axis (A-axis) of CNC machines enables the rotation of the workpiece along with the X, Y, and Z axes, significantly enhancing the machine's versatility and machining precision. With this axis, complex 3D shapes, spiral patterns, or multi-sided components can be easily created without the need for manual repositioning of the material.

The fourth axis is often implemented using a rotary table, which can perform either continuous or indexed motion depending on the application. When using such machines, particular attention must be given to the precise programming of the coordination between the tool and the workpiece to avoid errors or collisions.
